Candace Cable has a deep love for Los Angeles, where she grewup easily accessing and exploring the mountains, valleys, beaches, and cities. After a spinal cord injury in 1975 at the ageof 21 that required her to use a wheelchair for mobility, she foundherself shut out of much of the beauty that Los Angeles has tooffer because of the intentional disenfranchisement andmarinization of people with disabilities.Candace connected with other Disabled folks to learn how toinnovatively access and engage with as much of SouthernCalifornia as was possible. These relationships led to traveling theworld and experiencing 18 Olympic and Paralympic Games as anathlete, journalist, athlete village services coordinator and as partof the 2016 game’s observer program. Candace is the mostdecorated Paralympian in LA and competed in the 1984 LosAngeles Olympic Games.Candace gained extensive knowledge of what accessible legacydevelopment is during her time as a journalist during the London 2012Paralympic Games. It’s essential to build with access first and with anauthentic Disability community lens in all areas, including publictransportation, infrastructure, employment, communication and eventdesign when creating welcoming mega-events anywhere.Candace Cable Consulting, LLC is her platform that advises and createsDisability community culture curriculum and collective liberation advocacy. Her technical knowledge includes PROWAG, universal access andinclusive design, transportation guidelines, ADA, IPC accessibilityguidelines, and international access requirements.Candace is working with Able Gamers to bring adapted E-Sportcompetition to the Paralympic Games.
