Diana Caiza

Mayor, Municipality of Ambato
المتحدث
ضيف خاص

Diana Caiza became the first indigenous woman mayor of the canton of Ambato. After 203 years of political emancipation, her name resonates in the history of the garden city, challenging entrenched norms and opening a new chapter in leadership. Since childhood, she has been seen as a leader and agent of change and transformation through her defense of interculturalism, the rights of indigenous and peasant women, her confrontation of political violence, and the construction of local norms for the recognition of peoples and nationalities as part of a more intercultural and plurinational state. She began her political life in 2016 when she was appointed alternate councilor of Ambato. In the 2019 sectional elections, she was elected rural councilor and immediately appointed deputy mayor of the city.
