Dr. Sun is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of AIWaysion, an award-winning University of Washington spin-off. He holds a Ph.D. in transportation engineering and has over a decade of experience in both industry and academia. Dr. Sun’s active research fields include AI and traffic sensing, traffic safety, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). Dr. Sun has been the Principal Investigator (PI) of many successful projects on comprehensive traffic sensing, video analytics, edge AI, cooperative driving automation, etc. He has collaborated with state and local agencies on projects funded by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP), U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT), Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), New York City DOT, etc. Dr. Sun has published and served as reviewers for various journals including the Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems: Technology, Planning, and Operations, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Journal of Transportation Engineering, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Journal of Radio Frequency Identification, IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, and Transportation Research Record (TRR).
