Alison Cohen has been obsessed with bike share since she discovered it in 2007. After multiple career starts—in professional tennis, investment banking, grad school failure, and environmental consulting—she founded her first of 3 bike share companies. SOon after, she co-founded Alta Bicycle Share, and started bike share systems in Melbourne, Australia, Washington DC’s Capital Bikeshare, Boston’s Blue Bikes and New York Citi Bike.In 2013, she founded Bicycle Transit Systems, and started operating Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Las Vegas by 2016. In 2024, BTS finally realized their vision of vertically integrating, and having operations, software, customer service, supply chain and product development under one roof by acquiring BCycle from Trek, now employing 230 people and their equipment in over 25 markets. When not thinking about bike share, Alison hangs out with her 3 children, aged 10, 10 and 12, and runs a lot. As a lifelong athlete, a few highlights stand out: she held the Lower Merion High School basketball scoring record that was broken by Kobe Bryant; she was ranked up to #400 in the world in singles in women’s tennis; and she and her daughters set the Guinness World Record in 2016 for the Fastest Half Marathon Pushing a Triple Stroller. It has since been broken.
