Frans Hiemstra is currently Regional Managing Director at Uber. In his role he oversees operations across several markets in the region, driving business growth & development, operations, and sustainability with a focus on autonomous vehicles.

Frans has been with Uber since 2015, holding a series of leadership roles across the business. He has served as Head of Expansion for Sub-Saharan Africa, Country Manager for South Africa, and Head of Operations, before being appointed General Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa in 2022, where he drove Uber’s expansion across the continent and played a key role in strengthening the company’s growth and operations.

Prior to Uber, he worked in management consulting, advising clients across various sectors including Energy & Resources, Manufacturing, Distribution, and African Economic Development.

Frans is a Chartered Accountant with a Bachelor's degree from Stellenbosch University in South Africa. In 2025, Forbes Middle East recognized his influence in the region's transport and urban mobility sectors by including him in their "Global Meets Local" list.
