
Johra Said Ali
Dr. Johra Said Ali is a chemical engineer and sustainability advocate dedicated to advancing clean energy and resilient urban development. She lectures at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Technical University of Kenya, where she imparts her extensive knowledge to the next generation of engineers.She holds a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the Vaal University of Technology, South Africa, with a specialization in renewable energy and biofuels. Her research focused on developing efficient, cost-effective biofuel production methods from renewable sources to support the global energy transition.
Dr. Johra serves as the mayor of Nakuru City, appointed under the Urban Areas and Cities Act (2019). In this role, she contributes to strategic governance, sustainable infrastructure planning, and inclusive policy formulation for Nakuru City, one of Kenya’s leading model cities. Her leadership emphasizes integrating environmental sustainability, innovation, and citizen-driven urban management aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and Kenya’s Vision 2030.She is also the co-founder of Earthlings Care Biologicals, a startup that transforms invasive species and agricultural residues into biochar-based biofertilizers supporting regenerative agriculture and the circular economy.Dr. Johra remains committed to empowering youth in STEM and promoting evidence-based urban transformation across Africa.
