Michael Dunn Jr has been the Executive Director of the planning council for Northern Illinois since 2015.  R1 functions as the Rockford Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), Northern Illinois Economic Development District (EDD) and 6 county regional Landbank.  Prior to joining R1 he worked at Winston & Strawn, Fidelity National Financial, and First Midwest Group.  He currently serves on the State of Illinois High Speed Rail Commission as a gubernatorial appointment, the Illinois Tollway Stakeholder Advisory Council, the Executive Director's council of the National Association of Regional Councils, the Executive Director of the Winnebago County Rail Authority, the Greater Rockford Economic Development Corporation board, and the Discovery Center Children's Museum as Vice Chairperson.
