Michaeljohn (Mj) Green is the Chief of Economic Development & Strategy at the Miami Downtown Development Authority (Miami DDA), where he leads efforts to attract, retain, and support businesses of all sizes in Downtown Miami. He oversees the Business Development team and works to ensure the city remains a top destination to live, work, and play.Previously, Mj served as Deputy Director of Innovation and Economic Development for Miami-Dade County under Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. His professional journey began in community finance with ACORN and Justine Petersen, sparking a passion for expanding access to capital in underserved communities. That passion led to leadership roles at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, JPMorgan, Wells Fargo, and Bank of Montreal.Mj co-founded the Africa Town Land Trust in Seattle, focused on affordable housing and homeownership for African Americans. He later moved to Miami to launch a CDFI in Opa-locka and became CEO of the Community Fund of North Miami Dade. During the pandemic, he helped launch the RISE Fund, which provided loans to 900 businesses and saved over 4,500 jobs in Miami-Dade.Mj serves on multiple boards, including the Dade County Federal Credit Union, The Lucy Project, and The Miami Foundation’s Open for Business Advisory Board. He’s been honored with several awards for community impact, including Legacy Miami’s “40 Most Influential African Americans” and the 2023 Black Achievers Trailblazer Award.Outside of work, Mj enjoys basketball, cooking, and staying connected to the community he serves.
