
Juan Mendieta
With more than 30 years of experience in mass communications, Juan C. Mendieta is one of the South Florida region’s most seasoned public relationsleaders. Holding key positions with all of his employers, he has worked in higher education, government relations, and on the air at major television and radio stations. During his career, he has covered or managed the communications for some of the region’s most crucial events over the last three decades including hurricanes, race relations, elections, presidential visits, major crimes, air disasters, major international trade gatherings, renowned cultural events and much more. He also holds advanced degrees in his field, is involved in the community and has important contacts throughout the industry and beyond.Juan currently serves as the Assistant Director and Chief External Affairs Officer for the Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works, managing all internal and external communications and stakeholder and municipal relations for the nation’s 10 th largest transit agency and the largest in Florida.Previously, he served as the Director of Communications at Miami Dade College, Director of the Miami-Dade County Communications Department, the Director of Communications for the Miami-Dade County Mayor’s Office, General Assignment Reporter at WSVN Channel 7 Miami, News Anchor at Newsradio 610 WIOD, and Reporter and Special Affairs Anchor at 940 WINZ Miami, among other important positions and employers.Juan holds a Bachelor’s in Broadcast Journalism and a Master’s in Public Administration from Florida International University. He is also active on many local and national advocacy and volunteer boards.
