Lee White, NHTSA’s Deputy Administrator, provides executive leadership for the nation’s agency tasked with establishing and enforcing vehicle safety standards and educating Americans to help them drive, ride and walk safely. His work also involves delivering on administration priorities, including development and execution of the federal regulatory framework for automated vehicles, leveraging data-driven insights and research, and ensuring the agency remains at the forefront of vehicle safety and emerging transportation technologies.Before joining NHTSA, White served as the U.S. Department of Transportation’s deputy assistant secretary for research and technology, where he generated strategic recommendations to help steer and optimize transportation research policies and programs. White directed the implementation and day-to-day management of research and technology programs to drive the department’s innovation agenda.Over the course of his career, White has held multiple leadership roles and served as a consultant in developing strategies, business models and roadmaps for automated vehicle operations. He also served as vice president of strategy for an automated vehicle company, where he established an automated vehicle freight network business model, partnerships and operations.White earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Georgia.
